Let’s start in the bathroom. This is one area that should never need a major spring cleaning. Regular washing of the tub and tile will keep mold and soap scum at bay. Use a solution of vinegar and water and you will keep your tiles and tub surrounds sparkling year round. Mirrors can easily be wiped down with window cleaner once a week. The only area that you might tend to have a pack rat tendency is the medicine closet. During your spring cleaning, if you haven’t kept up on this throughout the year, pitch unused medicine, bath soaps and things that will not be used that have accumulated.
Repainting the walls can give an older looking home a younger feel. Changing the paint can change the entire look of the room. It is inexpensive to do and will boost the value of the home. Lighter colors work best with a splash of bold, dark color for accent walls.
If there are some stains, you can remove them with a mixture of two tablespoons of baking soda to a half gallon of hot water. With a stiff brush, work the solution into the stain. After letting it do its job for a while, wash it completely. You may have to do this a couple of times.
Setting an expectation with your child goes a long way. No one wants to be surprised with a demand or told to do something “right now” when they are in the middle of doing something else. So, set the expectation with your child that you expect them to move so many hours a day or week. Establish that these will be times they are not sitting in front of the television, or on video games.
Also be on the lookout for ties in the cushion. These are helpful for one reason: so that when you sit down on your Outdoor sun loungers you don’t go scooting off of it! With this feature you’ll be able to harness chair to cushion, and you will have a much more solid seating arrangement. Another benefit of the ties is that they will keep your new patio cushions from being blown away by the wind, whether you live in the desert or the stormy Northeast or even Tornado Alley, this is not a small thing to consider. You do not want to lose your seat, so to speak!
After a long winter, it’s always nice to put away your heavy coats and take out your summer clothes. Hello sandals, shorts, sunglasses and bathing suits, goodbye pullovers, ski socks and winter boots. The change of season often makes us want to go shopping, after all the clothes we wore last summer couldn’t possibly still be in style? If money is tight, then I always recommend re-trying on your clothes as you reorganize them. Do this while flipping through your most trusted fashion magazine, and you’re bound to find that a lot of your pieces can be used to create current looks.
Replace your patio furniture cushions with a new set or recover the ones you have (although you are likely to find in many cases that new ones will to cheaper especially if you shop around) Add a new picnic tablecloth to your table and you are good to go! If you have funds to spare, a few extra plants and tubs of colorful flowers around the patio will help give the whole area a boost.
